An exceptional experience

An exceptional experience

There is so much to discover within walking distance of our front door.

La Source with its magnificent views of the C11th chateau is situated on the edge of the medieval village of Beynac-et-Cazenac, which has been voted one of the best “Plus Beaux Villages de France”. Beynac overlooks a sweeping curve of the Dordogne River, and is steeped in history and charm.

The village is well endowed with restaurants, patisseries, a butcher who offers rotisserie delights and prepared meals, a well stocked mini-market, a blacksmith, hairdresser, bar tabac which serves good coffee and has live music nights in summer, gourmet shop with picnic treats, a casual pizza bar on the bank of the river, pharmacy, physiotherapist, visiting doctor and a producers’ market during the summer.

Most important is the Vinotheque wine boutique which is run by your hosts, Lorena and Enrique.

Some Activities:-

Our “much more than a room” concept enables guests to enjoy the French lifestyle to the fullest by visiting markets and local food stores to bring home their next feast.

Canoe and/or swim in the lovely Dordogne River. The canoe operator will pick you up beside the Pizza Bar on the bank of the river 100m from La Source, and take you up-stream for a long or short leisurely paddle with the flow of the river through the shallow waters. Take a picnic lunch and swim at one of the pebble beaches, before you return to your starting point for a cool drink on the terrace.

Drift in a hot air balloon over spectacular countryside, after the fun of helping inflate the balloon. Enjoy croissant and coffee and the – “un, deux et trois” as the balloon is packed back into its basket at the end of your journey.

Discover the many well sign-posted walking and cycling trails which pass the front door. As well as taking the cobbled lanes up through the medieval village to Beynac Chateau, there are many walking paths through the local countryside. One can take a morning walk through the fields or along the river to lunch at the nearby Chateaux of Marqueyssac or Castelnaud, or the charming village of Le Roque Gageac. Or perhaps hike through the forest tracks for a picnic lunch at Cazenac.

There are several bicycle hire locations nearby.

Take an informative and relaxing cruise on the Dordogne on board a traditional Gabarre. On Thursday afternoons your host Enrique organises a wine tasting cruise in partnership with Les Gabarres de Beynac. “dégustez les vins du Sud-Ouest en Gabarre tout en découvrant le spectacle de la rivière Dordogne et les plus prestigieux châteaux du Périgord.”

Visit the local Chateaux, each of which has a unique character.

Learn more about Cro Magnon man and his art by visiting the many fascinating
caves a short drive from La Source.

Browse for antique or second hand treasures.

Have a special lunch out in the village or take advantage of your hosts’ experience and enjoy lunch on a terrace at an Auberge in the countryside or at one of the other fine restaurants nearby.Visit one of the nearby marchés gourmands in summer and enjoy music and food, special to the region, in company with others at a long feasting table.

The market in the medieval heart of Sarlat is a special experience. If you wish to have lunch after the market draws to a close your hosts can guide you to a quirky restaurant or tapas bar frequented by the locals.

Or for the simple life, relax with a book and glass of champagne under the oak trees in the forest of La Source.

Alternatively, you could use the terrace as your stage, as Leo, our visiting guitar instructor did. leo.mcfadden@gmail.com
